General Specifications
Standards
Designed, manufactured and tested to comply with relevant IEC and Australian standards.
Efficiencies comply with MEPS 2006 according to AS/NZS 1359.5.2004
Duty
Standard motors are Continuous Duty Rated (S1), based upon max ambient of 40 deg. C and altitudes below 1000 metres. Motors may need to be de-rated for higher ambient, higher altitude or higher duty ratings. Refer to EMT.
Construction
Motor stator frames and end shields are manufactured from high-quality castings, providing extreme strength particularly in applications where shock loads or vibration are present. Flanged end shields are a one-piece design that are internally strengthened to support the full motor weight in most horizontal or vertical mounting positions.
Rotors
The rotor windings and end rings are one-piece die cast aluminium with cooling fins to provide internal air movement. Shafts are made from high quality carbon steel. Drive shafts are Drilled and Tapped as standard and all shafts have Captive shaft keys.
Balancing
Rotors are dynamically balanced and conform to limits of vibration severity as specified in relevant IEC and
Australian standards
Bearings
Motors from frame sizes 63 up to 225 are fitted with "sealed for life" type bearings providing enhanced protection against the ingress of dust and fluids.
Motors from frame size 250 to 400 frame have flush through re-greasable bearings with a grease relief facility.
Standard motors are fitted with high quality deep groove ball bearings, which are lubricated with a lithium-based grease and are suitable for operation within an ambient temperature range of -20 degC to +55 deg C. Bearings are preloaded with a wave washer or pressure spring arrangement, which increases bearing life and reduces bearing noise. The life of bearings is dependent on various factors such as bearing load, motor speed, operating temperature and the purity of grease. Special bearing arrangements can be provided for high or low ambient temperature applications, or high thrust or centrifugal loads. In this instance refer to EMT.
Service Life
e-Drive motors provide a extended motor service life and regreasing intervals thanks to lower motor operating temperature achieved with MEPS2006 and EFF1 motor designs.
Fasteners
All fasteners are metric thread and electro-zinc plated for high corrosion resistance and suitably sized for rigid component mounting.
Cooling
Totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC - IC0141), with external frame cooling fins to assist with heat dissipation. Cooling fans are one-piece fibre-reinforced, multi-blade polypropylene or pressure die cast alloy. Fans are keyed and circliped to the shaft to prevent movement. All fans are bi-directional. Fan covers are rigid pressed steel.
Degree of Protection
Degree of protection for all motors is IP55 as standard. All motors are fitted with a double lip oil seal or labyrinth type rotating flinger at each end to enhance protection of the bearings against the ingress of dust, water, oils and other contaminants. All flanged motors are suitable as standard, for fitment to a wet mount gearbox.
Modifications to higher IP ratings can be provided upon request.
Mounting Arrangement
The design of motors is such that they can be operated in all horizontal-mounting positions. For confirmation of vertical operation refer to EMT
They are available in B3 foot mounted, B5 flange mounted, B14A face and some B14B mounting configurations.
Terminal Box
All terminal boxes are a 2-piece split-cover type that can be rotated in any of 4 directions. Metric threaded conduit entries are provided on all frames as well as an additional knock out conduit entry on frames 63 to 132. (Refer to dimension data for number and size of entries.) A threaded cable gland is supplied with each motor.
As standard, the terminal box material on frames 63 to 132 is Alloy and for frames 160 to 355, Cast Iron.
A Cast Iron terminal box can be fitted to 63 to 132 frames as an option
Stator Windings
Standard motors are wound with quality Class "F" insulating materials and winding designs generally limit the temperature rise to Class "B" specifications. Motors with Class "H" insulation systems
Connections
Standard motors are fitted with a 6 stud terminal block and an earthing point is located both inside the terminal housing and on the external frame or mounting foot. For detailed connection data, refer to the Connections page within this catalogue.
Thermistor Protection
All e-Drive motors rated at 11KW and above are fitted with 1 set of PTC Thermistors embedded into the windings during manufacture. The thermistor leads are terminated onto separate terminals located within the main terminal box. A separate cable entry is included for thermistor connection.
Paint System
After thorough cleaning and degreasing, all components are coated with an enamel based epoxy polymer paint finish that is sprayed electro statically to ensure uniform coverage. This treatment enhances the non-corrosive qualities of the frame. Special paint systems for food industry or corrosive environments can be provided upon request.

EMT e-Drive Series 3 phase motors have six terminals studs as standard. The windings are specially designed for Multi-voltage and
Multi-frequency ratings making the standard motor suitable for many export markets.
e-Drive motors are compatible for use with single-phase variable frequency controllers up to 3kW and 3 phase variable frequency controllers throughout the entire range. Dependent on application, some de-rating may be required however all motors can be fitted with EMT Constant Velocity Cooling Units.
In this instance, refer to EMT.

 

The standard terminal connections for motors of 3KW and below are:

Delta connected for: 220 - 240V 50Hz
260 - 280V 60Hz
Star connected for: 380 - 415V 50Hz
440 - 480V 60Hz

Motors 4KW and above are suitable for starting Direct On Line or via a star/delta starter if required.

Standard DOL terminal connections are:

Delta connected for: 380 - 415V 50Hz
440 - 480V 60Hz
Star connected for: 660 - 720V 50Hz
760 - 830V 60Hz
